I have played since Primary School, represented North Otago many years ago and you can still see me partaking in a game of indoor during the week (all be it at a slower pace). I began coaching netball at the Primary School level (Future Ferns) when I was worried that my daughter may not be taught the correct skills and develop bad habits so what better way to stop worrying ¿ do it myself. I also coached and entered a local primary school team in the indoor netball competition at the old Caught¿n Bowl Centre (which has since burnt down). Assisted and umpired for two years with the Intermediate School Weekly Competition and this year is my third season with Merlins; first beginning with the Under 12¿s and getting through to the finals, then the U13¿s and making the semi¿s and this year the U14¿s (not my daughter¿s team though ¿ time to let her develop under someone else). I love the game and watching others enjoy it. I strive to teach the players the correct skills in a safe and friendly environment to enable them to play to their full potential. We never stop learning and every year I attend some very valuable courses run by the Christchurch Netball Centre. Wishing you all a happy and successful season (with not too many wet days).

DOB: 11/10/1989 Age: 17 Place of birth: Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand I grew up dairy farming in the North Island. We moved down to Christchurch in 1998 after leaving our farming lives behind. In my last year of primary school, I played in a Kiwi Netball team (now known as Future Ferns) for Harewood Primary School. In 2003, My Younger sister started playing for Merlins Netball Club. Back then the teams had to supply their own umpires. There was no one who was willing umpire so I stepped up to the plate. It was a real crash course to learning the rules of the game. I was also umpire for my sisters¿ team in 2004. In 2005, the Christchurch Netball centre introduced the Club Umpire Program so I was no longer umpiring Saturday Netball. I was umpiring a practice game for the team Fiona Milner was coaching one afternoon down at Isleworth Primary School. I had the club President (Deraulle Hope) approach me afterwards and commented on my great umpire. She went on to say that her daughter Taylor was stepping down as the Club Umpire and asked if I would be Interested in Umpiring for Merlins. Ever since that day It¿s been a very successful road. Today in my 5th Year Umpiring I¿m Merlins Netball Umpire Co-coordinator and also The Mentor in the clubs Umpire Development Program. I have been Umpiring at Howzat Indoor Sport Centre and also currently employed at YMCA Bishopdale as an Umpire in the Tuesday/Wednesday night indoor Netball competition. It had taken a lot of hard work to get to where I am today but It has all been worth it and I hope to go further and hopefully one day be the one under the spotlight umpiring the big international games.
